Open Lecture
As part of the Fluid Mechanics Conference, we are pleased to invite you to the lecture delivered by Prof. Szymon Malinowski entitled Fluid dynamics of Earth's climate:
Atmosphere and ocean are fluids. Fluids flow and carry heat, momentum, tracers. Their motion on rotating planet is governed by differences in absorption of solar energy in the form of shortwave electromagnetic radiation and emission of Earth's energy to space in form of infrared radiation. These are physical principles of weather and climate.
In the lecture, I will show simple, yet barely known physical foundations of climate science explaining recent anthropogenic climate change and climate projections for future.
This is an open event — all conference participants, as well as anyone interested in the topic, are warmly invited to attend.
The lecture will take place on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 18:00 at the Institute of Physics, Lodz University of Technology.
Prof. Szymon Malinowski
University of Warsaw
Prof. Szymon Piotr Malinowski (Institute of Geophysics at the University of Warsaw) is an atmospheric physicist, professor of Earth sciences, corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, chairman of the Committee on the Climate Crisis at the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
His scientific interests focus on: atmospheric physics, in particular cloud physics, atmospheric turbulence, airborne measurements, and numerical modelling. Co-author of over 100 peer-reviewed publications and 3 textbooks, PI and leader of over 20 national and international scientific projects.
He is a science popularizer: co-founder of https://naukaoklimacie.pl/ (Climate Science) website and Climate Education Foundation (https://fundacjaedukacjiklimatycznej.pl/).
